A history of the forums

Hi everyone, i'm new here.
i was reading some of the stuff about the forum becoming a ghost town, could someone fill me in please? It seems that there was some sort of major falling out over a person Locke, any info would be appreciated. thanks.

Some time ago, there was TutorialForums(.com). Lots of members, lots of posts on most all things graphic design, web development, programming, and other related junk.

Somewhere along the line came the idea for building something bigger & better. Enter Neverside. A more robust site with tools & community sorts of things... a database full of tutorials, places to post/apply for jobs, studio, & the good ol' forums, amongst other things. I forget what else, but some lofty goals.

And a lot of planning went into it, and a whole helluva lot of work went into it (everything you see now is built entirely from scratch) but the project has lost a lot of it's momentum over time. Most everything that people contributed was volunteer (no pay) and a lot of people found it hard to justify working so hard on something that began to have no end in sight.

Locke was the admin/mastermind behind it all. We could point fingers his direction, but.. eh. I don't think it's that simple.

Now a lot of folks lurk and wait for something brilliant to rise from the ashes of Neverside. The future is really unclear, so we take this time of uncertainty to reflect (read: mope) on "what happened"... instead of, you know, answering questions and just talking like most communities usually do. </selfmockery>

Anywho. Welcome to Neverside, freedfromthereal! Enjoy your stay Grin

we're not that bad, there's been some problems with trolling and people growing up and getting jobs and not bothering with the site anymore, such is life. A community is only as good as its members eh?

Wow, I'm just wondering, shouldn't the board have sparked right back up after the remaking had finished? Or was there some falling out over how the progress should continue, because I really don't see how what Locke was orchestrating could be that bad. This site looks and feels amazing, and it's a tribute to everyone who volunteered to make it. I just think that this board needs more people knowing about it, maybe that could help.

Activity may also have lowered because it took longer than expected to implement Searching and Private Messaging. In addition, the Contests and Market Place boards never re-surfaced after the TF -> NS transformation. I think the original team's plan was to have dedicated site sections for those two.

It was a big mistake to rush the migration from TF to NS while NS was barely in its infancy and could not even provide all the features that TF already did.

yeah, Neverside was born premature. Wasn't developed enough to sustain itself yet Sad
