Saving on image space

Hi guys.

I'm trying to create a bebo skin, but unfortunately for some daft reason they won't allow any images to be over a certain size in KB. I've tried saving the images as .jpg and then changing the file size but unfortunately the quality of the image is very, very poor.

Anyone got any ways on PS that you can try saving on image? The image isn't even that complex- so there should be some way you can save on file space?

GIF can be more ideal if the image uses a lot of the same colors (think patterns, web buttons, that sort of thing). If it's more photographic-like, all you can really do is sacrifice the JPEG quality until the file size fits.

PNG is reportedly smaller with some images.. have you tried that?
