Try to reinstall the drivers for your sound card.

If you are running windows go to system restore. Any changes to sound drivers will be listed in there. Go thorugh th dates to see when it happened then restore to that time. If there is nothing there reinstall your sound drivers.

Also if you have some speakers and/or headphones plug them into the laptop and see if they work or not.

Even if it says it is working correctly you should go ahead and uninstall and then reinstall the drivers. It's like someone who has cancer but doesn't know that they do.

Go to start, then run and type dxdiag. Click sound, does the device show up in there correctly with the name of it and driver name?

ok i went and opened that up and on the sound tab it came up with this, direct sound test results: failure at step 19 (user verification of software): HRESULT = 0x000000000(error code)
i then continued to the next page and it was the mucis one and there was 4 options
microsoft midi mapper (emulated) - sound
microsoft GS wave table SW synth (emulated) - sound
microsoft synthesizer - no sound
conexant AMC audio - no sound

Does any of this make sense to anyone?
Also im not sure the laptop came with a driver cd, i have found 1 driver cd but how do i know if that is for this laptop and not our old computer?

Im still stuck right up gates **** and i might be here a while

That wasn't directed towards you but if you're happy, I don't want to ruin a cute couple.

Anyways, did you try to plug headphones and/or external speakers into the audio port to see if they work?

You don't need to have the cds that came with the computer. You just need to know what type of motherboard is in the laptop and go to the manufacturer's site and download the sound drivers. Also, depending on how old your laptop is the drivers on the cds might be old and there might be an updated version on their website.

Of course, the speakers could've been bumped loose somewhere in there. If no sound comes out of the port and installing the drivers don't work then you should have a looksie and investigate. If you're not able to open the laptop up(if it is out of it's warranty) then call around to some computer repair shops.
