Yes you are somewhat correct. However this is a chicken and the egg scenario. Do we create a defense for something that doesn't exist yet and then be ready when someone does finallt take the space route, while possibly being the reason they decided to go the space route... OR, do we do nothing and face the possibility that someone else takes up that challenge which will catch us off guard when something does happen?

Unfortunately for the time being, weapons are needed. Should we be at war with Iraq? Probably not, should N. Korea have Nukes... probably not. However are we at war and does N Korea have nukes... yes on both accounts. However it is where we are at right now and hopefully in the future we won't need them. We have two more years with the current sitting President and nothing can change that. So it is up to us voters to make a change and maybe save face on some things and maybe then we won't need them (although I feel as tech grows, space will become a possible battle front).
