has anyone deeply read / analyzed the bill? I bet it isn't so extreme.. (hope more like it) ___________________ I code alot. May I make a suggestion? Read the bill, not just the link from Lydia. I haven't scanned/compared all the claims from the link, but of the three I've checked out, only 1 seems to be correct. |-> end protection of prisoners of war under the Geneva Conventions [948b] 1 correct claim. |-> make it legal for the government to use testimony extracted through torture 2 false claims. Bill as passed by House and Senate: (Apparently the link was temporary. Just go to http://www.congress.gov and search for s3930) That said, denying Geneva Conventions rights is enough to make me wonder "wtf". edit: I'm also confused as to the inclusion of the above statements, and the apparent exclusion of them earlier in the bill, by denial of certain codes of the UCMJ. Would it be that hard to write a bill more simply? ___________________ Check my title. Last edited by InvisibleCaper, October 2nd, 2006 09:46 AM (Edited 2 times) what irks me is that bit about clearing bush of any war crimes. he's basically making it so that when his term ends, he will be completely immune to any backlash from his presidency. i don't understand why he has not been impeached yet. the whole country is suffering under him and his cabinet's command, yet the ones we elected to put reigns on him decide to give him MORE power? this is just too damn depressing....
About that .. could somebody show me where in the bill that is? Again, I didn't do a thorough search, but I didn't find anything relevant with what I was looking for (mainly the terms 'war' and 'crime'/'criminal'. They could've doctored the language, I'm not that patient. Edit: Nevermind, section 8. Edit again: A brief skimming of what Sec. 8 referred to, looks like that protection already existed. S3930 just made it slightly more specific. So place the blame on the other act .. ___________________ Check my title. The power that the Bush Administration is trying to claim is outrageous and is exactly what the USA is not founded upon. All this is is a chance to make this a legal dictatorship and tryanny. The crimes he has committed may not be war crimes (unless you take the Iraq war and the "War on Terror" as war crimes), he's made crimes against humanity! I'm talking about what he has done to the United States and its citizens. Everything thus far he has said has either been a complete lie or irregular truth. I could cite multiple examples of what he has done to put the nation in a less safe than it has ever been. I'll read the bill more closely, but from what I've read in that short bit, the nation is not going to progress or prosper with him and his "cronies" in power. ___________________
That doesn't take away the fact that opposition is as blind as Bush, and that everyone is going completely crazy over this, yet no one actually knows what's in the bill... Kidd, never said I wasn't. I wouldn't go so far as a dictatorship. I think that comparison is extremely overused and not really appropriate. Anybody who thinks Bush is a great/good President should have their head examined, yes, but he's a long way from a tyrannical dictator. And what politician doesn't lie or twist the truth on a regular basis? ___________________ Check my title. |
