Evolution vs. Creationism
Now, I've been debating this topic elsewhere quite a bit lately, and I would like to know where everyone else stands, whether it be either side, or smack dab in the middle, like myself.
I believe that evolution and crationism are both theories, as there is no scientific factual proof to back up any part of them before humans existed or were able to record our history. Some say that evolution is fact, backed up by scientific knowledge, and I reply that even the best possibility, does not make something true. We use our knowledge today, based upon our current lives and use certain experiments, the ones used today on current things, on fossils, and older artifacts to sort of determine our history. Mainly, I think it's used to try and debunk the theory of creationism, but that's where it falls short of the truth. We can study and experiment all we want, but we cannot possibly know what happened before we existed, unless we go back in time, which is impossible. There is no proof that creationism is factual either, other than a document passed down through the years, rewritten, and probably some info changed every time it was written. The meanings in the bible are probably misperceived as well. But that's a different debate. Just because in-depth scientific studies have not tried to prove that we were created, as opposed to evolution, does not mean it didn't happen. But, all in all, I'm not saying I'm a theist or an athiest, I'm just trying to suggest that there is no proof that either belief is true, that they are only theories, and that you should just pick the one that sounds most convincing, and just go on living your life not really worrying about it too much.

It all depends on the axioms used, as always. To establish a theory, you need to start from somewhere. What do we take for granted?
Creationism's axioms are plenty and include everything written in the bible, the testament, etc... Evolution's axioms are mostly scientific stuff like particles, which are elemental and can't be "explained". Now, we don't know any of this stuff for SURE. We can only do as Descartes says and doubt everything, in which case both theories are wrong.
This means that it all boils down to what YOU believe.
I think a unification of both theories is in order, so we don't have to fight over the correct one. There's a lot of stuff that actually corresponds to each other and that allows for a global supertheory that embraces both theories...

I like that statement, Gil.
Kind of like you cant have one without the other!
Creationism is based on religion and evolution on science.
Creationism believes in an superbeing where evolution believes in natural changes.
There was a time when humanity had no religion as we know it today.
I've seen evidence of evolution in plants but no evidence of creationism, or have I?

But even if we could put all our logic to try and find out if there is a god or if we just simply evolved, if there is a god, then he/she/it might be covering it's tracks so it'd be impossible for us to find out the real answer until we die. But it's just as believable as the tooth fairy and santa claus. But who's to say they never existed?

Creationism:
the tooth fairy? a nice myth.

Evolutionism:
Santa? based on true events that at one time did occur but like anything that can make money, blowen to big for its own good. sound familiar...LOL
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_clause
covering its tracks? thats a good one!
lets forget about god as a superbeing for a moment and think of god as just a man.
would it all make sense then?
i think it just might!
humanity has a propensity to exaggerate. the myths and legends are fact to this as are fairy tales, etc. Natives told stories, sometimes to ward off other humans from trying to take their lands or to bring people in to make money from.

God could be mother nature for all we know. The spirit of the world as a whole. Oh and the reason I brought up the tooth fairy and santa claus, was because someone debating against me used those 2 as examples.

Noooooo, why!!!! Not this debate for the love of a possible god! *bangs head on table*
"clears trought"

Shoot even when we die we might not find out. When you are dealing with the super unknown there are no guaranties what so ever.
But even if we could put all our logic to try and find out if there is a god or if we just simply evolved, if there is a god, then he/she/it might be covering it's tracks so it'd be impossible for us to find out the real answer until we die.
Granted, all of life is like that when you get right down to it. However, are you seriosly proposing that creationism is on the same level as evolution? We maybe never know what is true but I think it's safe to say there is far far more evidence for evolution over creation.
Just because in-depth scientific studies have not tried to prove that we were created,
How would one go about testing something like that? I don't even think that?s falseafileable thus right off the bat making it unscientific.

As Gil said, it all boils down to what your beliefs are.
As far as proving a theory goes, to truly have hard proof of its validity, one would have to then back up the scientific knowledge they based their explanation upon.
How are you supposed to do that? It's like when I took proofs...our first assignment was to prove 1 + 1 = 2. Yeah, you could "do it" (which was correct or incorrect according to textbook standards), but all that you would come up with is that 1 + 1 = 2 because...well...because it does! 1 + 1 = 2, so 1 + 1 MUST equal 2! Brain jarring, I KNOW!!!
The answer for everything is because.

Descartes was correct in the assumption that if you want to find the answer or hold a former belief true, then you need to question everything that seems "wrong" and find your conclusions.
But that's all I'll say about this because this is a dead end debate about whether creationism or evolution is better than the other/

Indeed. And to Tool, there really is no evidence for evolution above the evidence for creationism. Look at geological studies, and dinosaur bones, and pre historic human bones etc etc and so forth, and then look @ the bible, or documents similar to it for whatever religion there is to believe in. If we look at these bones, we can study them all we want, but the truth is, we can never develop a way to tell the 100% factual date of when those bones were "alive." We can guess, and experiment all we want, but unless we go back in time to when it actually happened, there is no way to tell that dinosaurs existed 100 million years ago or 10 thousand years ago. We use experiements like carbon testing as an example to find the date these bones lived, but all of these methods are based on things that live today. Not thousands or millions of years ago. So, all experiments can be made, but there is not a full proof method, nor will there ever be, to find our true history. So ruling out either, would be foolish, saying that one, indeed has more "evidence" than the other. The documents that were passsed down such as the bible are probably different than when they were originally wirrten. And all documents, fact or fiction, are based on a person's opinion, in most cases. There is no real evidence to disprove creationism or evolution and it all comes down to what one believes.
Evidence means proof. You know that facts change over time. People once thought the world was flat, maps were made, and almost everyone accepted it to be true. Now we know it's a sphere. All of the laws of physics could have changed before humans existed. Something huge could have happened to make all dinosaurs and practically everything else to die at some point. There's no telling what happened back then. Common sense tells me that I should just live life to it's fullest, and follow what I think is right.
What would be wrong with believing in god, just to have me in a casket, not living, no after life, nothing, after i die? You've got nothing to lose by believing in a diety. Forcing others to believe in something that is not proven, even with the scientific studies, is just nonsense. And the same goes for forcing people into believing a certain religion.
