Curious: Earrings on Men

So I am looking at getting one of my ear pierced. But mum is like "zOMG - You have to get the left ear done, otherwise - people will think your a fag (Which I am one >__>)".

Honestly, I don't give a toss about what ear I get done.

So here is my question - do you believe that only gay men get their right ears pierced.

That's what I've always "heard"... but I really have no idea based on any facts. True or not, a lot of people do believe that and may draw conclusions as such.

Personally I have both ears pierced - two on the left, one on the right. For the reason I mentioned above, I personally would not get only my right ear pierced.

Yeah, at least here in the states it works like this:

Straight: Left ear, one in left and right, at least 1 more in left compared to right.

A lot of black guys have one in each. And its usually white guys(like Dave) that have one extra in the left ear. I laugh at that because its like they're trying harder to prove that they're not gay.

Gay: One in both, or only in right.

But, a lot of gay guys don't have their ears pierced. At least now in Florida and Memphis...

If you do a little research into the history of this, you'll find that perception has changed over time. It didn't used to be like this; only now is a pierced right ear considered a possible indication (although hardly accurate by any stretch of imagination). If you do only get your right ear pierced, then some might make assumptions, but really it's just a dying myth.

2 in each ear, 3 if in doubts... Grin

BTW, I don't really recommend follow what the Status Quo says

I've never heard about this 'right-ear' thing. It's completely arbitrary, which makes me believe that very few people would actually take it seriously. Therefore it seems to me like a completely useless indicator.

if you wear one single little earring stud, its pretty gay, not by right or left, but just by style.

i can barely tell my right from my left half the time, and i doubt enough people take the time to figure it out, however, the few that will and be like, omg you're gay, yeah, just be ready for that. lord knows it will happen, especially if you're still in highschool

My best advice to tell anyone is to get whatever looks best on you. Whether it be a tattoo, piercing, whatever, don't do just anything. If a right ear piercing looks right on you, then get it. And if not, then don't.

The myth of pierced right ears is more popular with the generations before us, seeing as they were raised in a time when unordinary piercings started to become more popular, along with the fact of being gay became more popular. The only reason why someone would misconcieve you is because they're being raised by someone who was taught to believe this myth. Though, sometimes true (since homosexuals use this to flash what they are proudly), you can rest assured that there are straight people with only right ear piercings too.

Personally, I don't have any piercings in my ears, never would. Reason being, it's too common, and it's too not me. Instead, I support a pierced labret, and used to support a pierced eyebrow along with it. Why? Because that was my look... or the right look for me perhaps. As it should be.

Oh, Lucifel, you should probably tell your mom you're gay, no?
