help with lightening/electricity please

i'm making a logo...and want to add lightning/electricity to it to make it look electrified. I can make lightening using the render clouds and the levels changing method...but the problem with this is it uses a black background...and i need perfect lightening on a transparent background so i can place it into my logo...

any ideas?

Try the clouds/levels method, then changing the layer's blending mode to Screen or Lighten; most of the black shades should just go transparent.

If that don't work.. magic wand -> delete?
