convert a colored image to black & white.

How would i go about doing this i want to change a picture i have to a black and white pic but have only selected parts in colour

well its very easy open the image in photoshop and click on Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate or use the short cut by pressing Shift+Ctrl+U.

Open your image in Photoshop. Go to "Layer" -> "New adjustment layer" -> "Hue/Saturation". Set the Saturation to -100. Now your entire image is in balck and white. In your layers pallette you'll see a layer named "Hue/Saturation 1" with a layer mask. You can now paint on that layermask to reveal color.
