Mixing two pictures together

Hello, I'm new to these forums. I have a question that I can't find an answer by myself. I want to mix two different pictures together so that one of them fades, something like this - http://www.rpgdreamer.com/wall/ffx/techno-1-2.jpg . I tried googling it but I don't even know the right name of this effect/trick, so I didn't have any luck.....Any help is welcome, thanx.

Copy and paste the images into their own separate layers. Then, in the Layers tab, change the Opacity of the top layer down to 50% - 80%. You can also try changing their layer order and blending modes for different effects good luck1
