Proxies
ok. So Im in class atm and im bored to death. My college uses a proxy that only seems to work with browsers (proxy.nyit.edu). I really want to get on IRC to pass some time. Does anyone know how I can get past the proxy to get on IRC? Im on a macbook with Mac OS X, and the IRC client im using is xchat.
Thanks for you help.

Use port 80, or 443.
We've done it before, couple of years ago now, for the life of me I cant remember how we did it, I think it was using a remote machine on port 443 as a proxy.
*Why port 443, well, 80 is for the internet in general, 443 is for secure sites, and is generally not blocked, and using it has less chance of interferring with using the 'net*
