I'm having a lot of trouble at step 4, my direct selection tool has almost all of its options greyed out. I can't select "Free Transform Path", I don't know if I did something wrong in the vector mask stage to cause this.

I am havng the same difficultys sept i created my transform path but when it comes time to create vector its grayed out

I would be interested in a tutorial about the inset behind the buttons you show in the finished product. I tried to apply the tutorial with the audio interface and using the direct select method but my outline is net very well rounded and symetrical. I see that IE 7 uses this same style in their forward and back buttons. Any help or point to a source would be much appreciated. BTW, great job, it is unbelievable that you take time out and share your valuable knowledge with us. Thank You!

I'm having troubles selecting the free transform button is there a step we are missing?

All of you are quite right - there is a crucial step right at the end that isn't available. I have everything working correctly to Step 5 but am unable to 'Create Vector Mask' - I had high hopes for this and haven't found a similar tutorial with these types of results anywhere else.
