I hate gift cards - just the same as money except restrictive of where you can use it. Also, they don't require much thought.

I reckon buying her a film is a good idea, shows you thought about the sort of thing she'd like. From what you said, I would recommend Twelve Monkeys (one of my favourite films). Only thing is it's quite cheap because it's old, so you might want to get her some chocolate to enjoy with it as well.

Buy her an iPod.

Requim of a Dream is my fave movie... but its not all that "smart" its kinna disturbing and the plot becomes known very fast.

12 Monkey's, or Seven, or The Interpreter - thought provoking and smart and interesting all different paced movies with very different contexts.
