nude ( P ) Pronunciation Key (nd, nyd)
adj. nud·er, nud·est
1. Having no clothing; naked.
2. Permitting or featuring full exposure of the body: a nude beach.
3. Law. Lacking any of various legal requisites, such as evidence.
n.
1. An unclothed human figure, especially an artistic representation.
2. The condition of being unclothed
Even the dictionary views "nude" in an artistic manor.
Porn is even considered artistic in some ways, to some people. But that's another issue for another time.
To me nudity, nakedness, being bare is art within itself. Everything people have said so far describes nudity for what art is. A visual that stimulates thoughts and opinions, good or bad.
Whether a man/woman will show himself/herself naked or not; Is the same as whether an artist will show his/her paintings or not. Whether the person/artist is comfortable with doing so is purely up to them and either way, it opens you up to praise and/or critisism.
I don't find anything wrong with 'tasteful', or even 'distasteful' (meaning sexual or pornographic), nudity in art, as long as it is shown in a respectful manner towards the person that is being portrayed. As well as in the right place and at the right time around the appropriate people who have an appreciative sense of what is being shown and why it is being shown.
