what speakers should I buy?
I recently bought a sound blaster x-fi platinum edition sound card. I was planing on buying the new creative labs gigaworks speaker system for 500 dollars but I'm starting to feel like I would definatly regret that. I can't imagine 7.1 (7 speakers) would really be that much better than 5.1 (5 speakers). My computer room is very small to begin with so I think that a 5.1 surround sound system would be the best bet for this room. 7 speakers would just be overkill in this tiny room. I've had these speakers in mind, they've gotten good reviews and are thx certified.

Can someone with knowledge in this area tell me what they think or if this isn't a smart buy?

small room + 5.1 = excellent. you dont need 7.1 logitech is a decent brand, but creative is also very good and if you want to spend an arm and a leg, try bose.

I have logitech Z-680's, it was the big thing about 2 years ago, still sound GREAT. Might try ebaying them, or looking at whatever model replaced them

Altec Lansing speakers always made great speakers, they are always reasonably priced too

Altec's are great, but very underrated. Very good speakers. The lansing brothers make some of the best speakers. Altec perfected in sound reproduction, and James perfected in live sound. I don't know if you've ever heard of JBL, but JBL stands for James B. Lansing.

I use the Logitech Z-2300 (2.1, THX certified), and they're really excellent. I would recommend them. If you look at CNet, the reviews are really good too.
