Gaw I heart college!

I just got back from a night of wild partying. Kegs and women everywhere, with the occasional gummy worm/bear. It was a good time. We laughed at this guy for buying a $1000 bicycle for about an hour and then I passed out. We do this almost every weekend or so, breaking for exams and other personal reasons. Not only is the partying great( it has its dead moments), the campus is really nice and the faculty is really cool. I have a professor that has a tattoo and displays it proudly, another who went to a community college and then to Brown and MIT. So many great aspects! Multiple food eating choices, shopping, study places, social events, sports, etc. I got to UNL( University of Nebraska-Lincoln), which is a pretty nice place.

Anyone else in uni and like it? What are some of the good things you enjoy doing? For our international friends, what's the equivalent to uni where your from to the US? Feel free to comment with whatever.

Maybe I'm just looney, but the social aspects and opportunities of college don't really appeal to me. At all.

Oi, I am too! I've chosen, though: I want to go to LSU. I'll probably get an undergraduate degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science, and then I'll go for a graduate degree---a doctorate. I might take sometime off between the two, though. :P That's a lot of time. But then again, it might be worth it to get it over all at once.

I go to the University of Waterloo in Canada. If by equivalent you mean the ranking of my university in Canada compared to the ranking of universities in the US (for engineering), mine would be about equivalent to MIT as it's supposed to be the #1 engineering school in Canada.

And yes, university is great. I didn't think that was necessary to point out, or start a thread about; most (read: all) people know that.

Same here - but then again as a general rule I hate all people so that's not really surprising. Also, I don't drink. Grin

It all changes when you get there. Krypto, I posted just because I love the place. This thread can also be used to help kids who are in HS search for a cool uni to attend, etc. And to me, when it comes to ranking a school, it means nothing if you learn nothing while your there. Not saying you're not learning anything. I was thinking of going to MIT for comp sci but I decided not too.

You'll probably change. I never drank in high school, had no interest in it. When I got to college, everything changed. Partying is fun with the right people. The stereotypical college party with kegs and whatnot can be fun, but hanging out with a small, close group of friends at someones apartment/house is so much better.

And yeah, college is fun. The free weekends during the first few years end up turning into opportunities to do homework later on though..

I agree with Joe like a billion google percent (about hanging out with a small group of friends). I honestly think big colleges are overrated, I go to Cal State Fullerton. When it comes to tech jobs especially, experience is way more valuable than a college degree. However if you are going into electrical engineering (any engineering i guess) its not true, but if you want an IT or programming job, I wouldnt be overly concerned about the name of your school.

Actually, California Institute of Technology is running higher in the ranks than MIT from what I have read.

Yay! I'm looking at CSULB, Berkeley, US Naval Academy, Syracuse, UCI, UCD, UCSD, SDSU. My planned major would be Mathematics and Physics. Double major!

Jason....prepare for no life if you do declare that major. Also, what are your scores on the SAT/ACT? I hope you have over a 1300/30, respectively on those tests, otherwise you won't make it into those top ranked unis. Not saying you don't have a chance, but it's slim pickings with those.
