I've set my borders at 3 years currently. The age difference really doesn't matter to me, but I decided for myself to use that rule. It not only keeps it legal, but after my ex (she was 15, I'm 19) I found out that girls under 16 are just too immature. My current girlfriend turns 17 in Mai, and though she's still a bit less mature than me, we're doing fine.

Legal system here (Belgium) works like this:

If you're under 14, sex is illegal. Between 14 and 16 you can have sex with anyone between 14 and 18. Between 16 and 18 you can have sex with anyone less than 9 years older than you. From 18 on you can do what you want.

I think it's a pretty good system. I honestly to god don't understand the current trend here for guys between 22 and 26 to go out with girls between 13 and 16. It's just so unnatural. I figure it happens, because girls suddenly grow up a heap somewhere between 13 and 16. At that point they suddenly want as much maturity as they can find. After a year or so they seem to go back to dating guys their age category...

well my aunt and uncle are 7 years apart and have a wonderful relationship.

I seek older women simply b/c they are more mature. I'm only 19 and I'm sick of girls my age drama, past relationship problems, bias/stereotyping, etc. Under 18 I'd say at;east a 2 grade difference is acceptable..a sr in HS dating freshman is absurd.

Same here Kube they are happly married so they dont care if it's acceptable or not.

When I was 16, I was sexually active with a 20 year old... We had a pretty normal friendship.

for me personally I dont think it matters either. I would go for anyone I like no matter what as long as it's legal man. I think as long as the couple llove each other they should be together what ever the age difference. However if it's not legal then they would just have to wait a little longer. However I do think it would be a little difficult if there's a big difference as they in different stages of life and wont necessarily think the same way. JUst like gil experienced only in his case the difference wasn't that big. But if both partners are up for it then I dont see why not.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's because they suddenly have boobies.

Many people see it as wrong because thats how we have been brought up. In other parts of the world this is different. People there see it as normal practice (so to speak). When it's on the news we find it wrong because thats how it is.

I think it really depends on the age of the people. I mean 40 and 35 is a lot better than 18 and 13 but the age difference is the same. :P

Good point, I have thought about this many times before. Like I said above, it is how we accept it.

What about this though if the couple were 16 and 21? Again the same age difference but one of them is 16, does this make a difference?
