half tone dots
I am working in desktop publishing with photos and I need to have my black and white photos for print-publications created with dots, just like black and white photos in your newspaper.
How do you get the dot effect, and I know there are various dpi's used: small amount of dots will create a blurred photo; and many dots (600+) will give you fine photo rendition. I have a Dell 3000CN laser printer and am NOT getting the dots when I choose to print black and white opposed to color. When I do print a photo layout, I get a weave effect on my photo images. Is there some kind of setting on the printer???
Is there some special trick to this? Help !!!!!!!!

The effect you're talking about is just that: an effect. You should be able to download it with varying degrees of customizability depending on which graphics program you're using.

I do some screen printing and to get a photorealistic image on a shirt I use Photoshop. If you are using anything other that grayscale mode, first switch the image mode to grayscale. Then go to Image->Mode->Bitmap. For the Method, use halftone screen. On the next screen, the frequency is what will control your resolution. I usually use elipse as my shape, but you might have to play with it to get the right effect. Like I said, this works for screen printing, hopefully it will work for print.
