break-up a fontcharacter
Hi,
I'm busy with a project for school ATM. Since we have to create a multi-platform commercial I want to make the name in vector, so it can be used on billboard, but also on pencils etc.
The idea I have in mind can be seen in the attachment. I want to type a character in illustrator and then break it a little bit, so you'd see pieces falling down. But is it possible to "break" 'm in vector? Hope there is a way to cut a piece of the character in small pieces and then drag them to a spot I prefer.
Hope somebody can tell me how this is done IF it is possible to do that and still keep it vector, both the character as well as the pieces.
Thnx in advance

I'm no expert at vector, but if you have the letter, you could create a white cover over the letter which would be on top of the letter, so it looks like it isn't complete. Then create the shards as seperate vector objects.
Or, you could modify the letters with the pen tool (by breaking them up with the right click menu option and then using the white cursor to move it around 'till it looks right), and then create separate shards.

or since your using illustrator you can use the pathfinder tool to cut the shards? out of the letter and place them where you want. Just use the pen tool where you want the piece(s) to break off of the letter and then use the divide pathfinder tool...
