PCI x1... Anything using it?

I'm looking into new mobos, and there is a lot of new PCI stuff, including PCI x1 and PCI x4... I don't see anything using these new ports...

Anyone know of a use, now? I know there are things in dev for release soon, but it's annoying that they are taking up space on all the new motherboards for little use.

I think your talking about PCI-Express. In which case currently only Video Cards are using as a faster and more modern alternative to AGP.

Those are PCIe x16, he wants something that can use x1 or x4..

Not that I know of, but I haven't looked around much. If anything does, I'd like to know as I could use it.

Right, but that's PCI x16, its the PCIx1 and x14 that I'm more concerned with

matrox said they'd have a PCI-e 1x graphics card out soon. As for other 1x cards I heard a gigabit lan card but not much more.

just wait a while and the won't be. I've heard rumors of some very high quality pci-e 1x sound cards.
