diagonal slicing?

hi
im currently working on a project of school about china. i made a little map with the big cities of china. wut i want is, when u scroll over the name of the city, the dot is supposed to lighten up. the lighten up part is easy by using image scrollover.

but now the problem begins. i want to be able to slice the image like shown in the example (yeah... the fat red line). because if i can slice it like that i can reopen that part only >> lighten the dot up >> save it as a scrollover image.

is it possibe to do this? if so, how can it be done?

i know i can use the Hotspot tool in dreamweaver, but then i havent sliced it, which means that the map is 1 big image of lots of kb and so lots of loading time AND i cant make a image scrollover if i use the hotspot tool, only a link.

I don't think it's possible to make a diagonal slice. You're better off just slicing the entire image into sectionals, put them together and create the hotspot over multiple slices if need be. If you save it as one large image, try using gif but use the least amount of colours (bits) possible and try using JPEG at about 60 - 70% quality, see if there's a size difference.

I don't use ImageReady often, but I think you can do these image rollovers in ImageReady.

I may be wrong, but the lasso tool , make the selection, Cut it out, and re-assemble it on the page?

youre better off using flash for this, otherwise youre either going to have a bunch of slices, or a lot of images with an image map roll over

Hmm... slices were meant for web use, and browsers only support rectangle and square images... so yea. I recommend using Flash. But if you're like me and using Flash makes you want to rip your hair out, try using image maps maybe? They support irregularily shaped links, but I'm not sure if they can be rollovers.
