my graphic is full of gradient. im trying to directly drag and drop the file from either photoshop and fireworks but still no use. the graphic looks great in photoshop and fireworks though. then im trying to save it as png but still it looks bad

File > Publish Settings > Flash > JPEG quallity
Then slide it up to 100. I'm not sure if you actually have to use JPEG though.

double click the item in the library to open up the bitmap properties box and try setting it's compression to lossless..
you can also set the movie's _quality to "BEST"..
and make sure the item is png-24 rather than 8 or something else..
and.. well, that's about all you can do, really.. There will always be at least a little bit of compression (therefore loss) in Flash.. Just one of those unfortunate facts of life..

The one in flash is 838px by 578px compared to the other, which is 853px by 593px. The slight scaling would do it...
Edit: The fact that it's not scaled uniformly to that dimension would also definately do it.

This doesn't relate to your problem, but if your graphics is mostly gradient, it might help to use Flash's gradient tool. You might save space since Flash won't have to take as long loading all the included files. Also, if some of your visitors don't have state of the art computers, they can turn down the quality. I don't think the quality adjustments will affect the images by that much.
Just a thought and maybe advice
