Help - Sharing
Im currently runinng Windows XP and I had made a couple folders private under my profile GRU. Then there was a virus so I did a system restore. It deleted my profile and started over with the Owner profile. But it did not delete folders under GRU, now I want to access the private folders in GRU, I would think having admin control would allow me to access these, but it won't. Is there anyway I can overide this so I can access these folders again?
I hope I explained it well enough

- Open My Computer
- Tools > Folder Options > View Tab
- At the very bottom, clear the "Use Simple file sharing" box. Apply > Ok
- Right click the folder in question > Properties
- Under the Security tab, make sure the Administrators group is present and that it has full control to the folder
- Click the Advanced button > Owner tab
- Make sure your user account is the current folder. If not, set it & check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" box.
- Apply > Ok

this didn't work
there isn't a "Use Simple file sharing" box
there's no security tab for folders properties, there was sharing tab, but nothing can be change, always an "Access denied"
Advanced option does not have an owner tab

Try booting into safe mode (repeatedly press F8 when booting, then choose "Safe Mode"), you should then be able to view the security properties on the folder. In safe mode, simple file sharing is disabled by default.
