I pretty much agree with the statements already stated. Buggy software, lack of updates, and ignoring potential problems. In addition, I dislike Microsoft because they have tried so hard to shut-down alot of open-source projects, and have sometimes suceeded.
Also, Microsoft has a long history of copying software. Just look at their legal history.

XP does have the blue screen, it's just far more rare than on earlier Microsoft systems. I've gotten it many times. Usually you get them when you have I/O or IRQ conflicts in your hardware. Even though XP is designed to support multiple peices of hardware on a single IRQ, the feature isn't quite perfected yet.

I don't hate Microsoft. I love their office software and the working environment. I just find it more comfortable than other systems - well, that's a bit unwarrented mainly because I grew up with it. I have used Macs before and the OS just didn't appeal to me. I mean, dragging the CD icon to the recycle bin to eject it? Pfffft.........

I "hate" Microsoft because they basically have a monopoly on OS's. I hate Microsoft because IE sucks.
Yes, MS has made some fairly decent software, such as their Office suite, but it's good to have competition and options. Even though there are other options out there, the majority of people haven't heard of them or know there are.
If it wasn't for Blizzard (WoW and Warcraft) I would never run Windows again.

And thats MS's fault? They have an oligopoly btw, especially in business - a lot use unix stuff for their terminals.

I think that when it comes down to it, people hate Microsoft because they are brilliant marketers of their products.

Yeah it is their fault. As kickboy said, Microsoft goes out of their way to crush any opposition. Especially open source projects.
You either think MS has "good business strategy" or you're like me "their an evil empire destroying anything and everything that offers opposition, regardless of it's merit toward the end-user". So pick a side.

That is the nature of capitalism. Bill Gates and company have spent their money wisely in effort to promote and grow their business. So what?

Microsoft started as a nothing company as well, they have played their cards right. Maybe they have been ruthless, maybe they do try to squash opensource, but overall they have been smart in how they have worked their company.
I am a HUGE fan of opensource, but at the same time, I am a capitalist pig. I participate and do what I can to grow opensource projects as much as I can, I even donate to ones I really have an interest in, but I have no problems with a company such as microsoft doing what they can to make money, because in making this money they have created a standard fo software writers and users. You can get a wide variety of software that works together. Meaning most businesses and homes use a form of Windows. You can type up your spreadsheet at work, bring it home and finish it there without having to convert things back and forth. There are probably better examples, but just think what the computer world would be like if there was no standard. One day the big thing might be Linux and all things that work with linux, then the big switch would be to Mac OS/X and before you know it you have to try and find work arounds to make everything work together.... etc.
Microsoft and Opensource both have their place and both will survive for years to come.
