Why do people hate Microsoft? Why do people hate Microsoft?Currently viewing this thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) People hate Microsoft because they are SUCCESSFUL and POPULAR. That's how it goes with most things in life; if you're successful and popular, a lot of people are going to have disdain for you. ___________________ - Lithiumas because they price gauge, they use shady business tactics, setup outrageous contracts which basically force people to continue using their software. They can't make an OS that works, but instead of admitting it doesn't always work they hide that fact, and act like it's just a normal thing everyone should get used to. Therefore lowering the standards of software, making "that's just how it is" an acceptable software design practice. Instead of following the flow of technology they make every effort to change it so that it better fits their wants, instead of looking out for the end-user. The company was founded on backstabbing and continues that strong tradition to this day. As far as XP not crashing. hip-hip-hoorah, it only took them 20 years to make an OS that was semi-stable. Do they want a medal?\ on a side note, does anyone else find it horribly ironic that the xbox 360 uses a Power-PC Chip (made famous by Apple computers) that was developed by IBM (famous for trying to replace windows servers with AIX and Linux)? ___________________ Ok, paint it ok for Pixel art, and to be honest, XP has only crashed twice in 6 months (by crash I mean just restart on me for no reason). My only real gripes are the whole domination thing, and Internet Explorer (I hate how they actually talk it up to be a good browser) . I'm not a frequent complainer though, I just promote the hell out of Firefox IE, most of the OS's before XP, and the way they do busines. I have to say that Office is really nice though. ___________________ People without self-doubt scare me.
alot of those 'wide opened eyes' programmer i've ever talked to (and they use linux too) said that if it wasn't because of windows and dos (ms), they wouldn't have became like they are now. ___________________ "The only thing i hate about Sunday is that because tomorrow is Monday" People just hate Microsoft's success. I've had Windows XP for a year and a half, and the times it's crashed on me can all be counted on one hand. I had Windows 98 for three years, it crashed often but it wasn't as bad as some people may try to lead you to believe. If you want bad, try out Windows ME, it was definetly Microsoft's worst OS. I don't hate Microsoft. They are merely exercising Free Enterprise. Most people that hate Microsoft don't even know why, they're just "going with the flow."
Price gauging? Have you checked the prices on some of apples stuff lately? It's an oligopoly, both companies charge considerably more then it costs them. It's called a capitalistic society, and get used to it. "The company was founded on backstabbing and continues that strong tradition to this day." I actually support Microsoft, use various office products daily, etc etc. The only tool of theirs I don't use is IE, although IE8 should have it's act together with any luck. ___________________ http://www.philbrodeur.com - Expert PHP Development and Tutorials People do it mostly because one guy had a problem, and others started saying they had problems. In all actuality, formerly Microsoft did have some buggy software, but aside from IE, there aren't too many bugs. Sure, sometimes the grammar / paper clip in Word get things wrong / go retarded, but aside from that, they don't really have many bugs anymore. I think most of the people who "hate" on Microsoft are jealous because most peripherals are designed to work with Microsoft, and sometimes OSX, and they can't use it on their FreeBSD / Linux box. I have a FreeBSD server, but a Windows XP workstation, so I guess you could say I have the best of both worlds. ___________________ ADSLFAJD;FLAKJDF;LJD RRRRRR AD;FJAS;DLFKAJSDF; RRRRR CHCHOW CHCHOW CHCHOW RRRRRR
I can't really say that I hate Microsoft... I've had a more pleasant time using Linux, but that doesn't mean I hate Windows. Some of their stuff, like .NET, is actually pretty cool. I do miss a few of the Windows applications that I used to use (Adobe & Macromedia, stuff like that), but most of the stuff I used on Windows was Open Source and available on various OSes... I actually made a blog post about this. And I still haven't found anything on Windows that even begins to compare to amaroK. ___________________
Word. I don't hate Microsoft, they have good software. I do dislike them however. And there's a lot to dislike, most reasons have already been mentioned, but I mainly dislike them because I have had lots of problem with their software, it's odd that some OS versions before XP were even released to the public. I haven't got around to changing either cos Linux hasn't really appealed to me, and Mac is too expensive. I'm going to switch tho, as soon as I can afford a Mac. :P And what's this talk I hear about XP not having a blue screen, I've seen it lots of times both on my "brand new" Compaq and my self-assembled puter. It does a memory dump and counts down to a restart. |
