now, im not so hot with flash, but would it be possible to create movie clips of each layer, like one for laces, one for sole, etc, and then within each of those movie clips just make frames of each color. That way, each part would be independent of each other. You could just use movie controls to change through the colors, but here's my question, because i'm trying to do this as well: How do you make it so that a button would alter just the movie clip, not the actual scene. For example, can you make a button go to nextFrame in a specific movie clip? I do believe there's some way, but i dont know wut it is. Then again, i may be completely wrong. thx

i noticed something kinda odd
in the second step they change the order of the colors..any idea why?
anyway my guess is they made a lot of models...
because sometime it takes time to load
and in another time the trasition is much faster...
i think it's all hard work here...less skills...

i have a suggestion. how about they used one single image. they made masks for each part of the shoe and they fade them all in one a time. so you still have only 1 image of the shoe there. you would make that image a symbol right? then for each mask layer you would have this.

Mask Layer - (cut out of some part of the shoe)
color mc layer - (to be controlled by actionscript depending on user input)
whole image symbol of shoe layer - (the entire image)

you would repeat the above layer set for each part of the shoe. to get the parts to fade you would simple tween the whole image layer to fade in from alpha = 0.

i think smurf is on the right track. with a little scripting knowledge you can control a movieclip and set a determined color format to it and have it fade in and out to the next depending on the users selection, which would be the color mc layer. then you can change the color of the shoe parts you have masked by actually changing the color mc layer.

in theory this seems like it could work. i know that using 1 image and masking parts of it will work if you do it like i wrote above.
