Yes, indeed, what in the HELL is this world coming to when we attempt to apply rules equally to everybody?

It's irrelevant if the rule is ridiculous (it is), or if the boy is in a unique situation (he is). I'll even agree that 10 days is a ridiculous amount of time to be suspended for that. But if he was getting extremely out of control, and if any other student, at that point, would be given the same punishment ... then I'm sorry, but the suspension was the right thing to do.

i think the rules can **** off and die in this situation the kids dad is dead and his mom could now die at any moment.

that kid should have every right to talk to his mom on the phone in or out of school "fairness" has jack **** to do with it. to suspend the kid because he got pissed cause a teacher was trying to stop him from talking to his mom in IRAQ was not the right thing to do.

And to snap the rules is? You can't make an excuse for somebody just because they have a sob story. Look, the kid knew the rule. The teacher gave him a warning. He disobeyed. He continued to argue the point, to the extent he was declared to be "out of control" - which considering the emotional state I'd be in in that situation, is probably pretty off the wall. It shouldn't make a difference if it's his mom or his dentist.

The people who work at the school are there with the authority to enforce rules or to bend them if a special case presents itself (ie: soldier mom calls from iraq).
