Need some help with segments and stuff

I'm tracing a computer case in Illustrator (in perspective) and I have to make some parts of it with colors..

So let's say I make the left part of it because it has a different color, then I trace the whole case and while tracing over it I need to have the perfect alignment over the last segment from the first part! So i select only one segment that stands over the whole tracing of the case and I copy it over... So then when i select my tracing of the whole computer case it selects everything I did except the part I copyed over...

Since I need to put color into it.. I need it to be a polygon... I tried join the 2 segments together but it doesnt work.. how do i do it?

I'm a little bit lost. Could you post a screenshot of what you want to do and what exactly is the result that you are getting?

One thing that you could do is to lock all objects (expand the layer and lock each individual path) so that you don't end up selecting what you don't want. This is just a guess while there's no screenshot (or while I can't make sense of this), but who knows...

It is rather hard to see the separate objects, but you'll probably be able to do it by selecting (with the white arrow) the end points of each object (one pair at a time) and joining them. To join, simply right-click after selecting the end points and choose Join from the pop-up menu.

In the future, do not double-post. Either people have time to reply right away or they don't. A new post - with no informative title - won't make things move faster.
