Universal Pictures intro effect.

Hi i'm making a short film and was am using the "Universal Pictures" intro as my intro but changing the name universal to somthing else.
Any ideas on how they do the lighting effect on the globe (earth).

i am using 3D studio Max 5.

Depending on what you are after you may be better off doing it in post production, where u will have more control over an effect like this.
