I don't see what money has anything to do with it, i'm doing fine with money making custom scripts.

to be honest Id rather opera users didnt see my site at all than see it in the way it renders in opera. the whole layout is messed up, the content doesnt look the same so just drop it. it's a site to help beginners in php yes. that has nothing to do with their browser. Where does it say that most people learning php use opera or firefox. which by the way has nothing to do with it considering FF users can view the site with no hassle.

Looks like Alex has done it for me.

Guys, the issue has been taken care of. Stop refering to it and stay on topic.

2. Your refusal to modify your code to suit Opera users is a bad idea. You're cutting down your viewer-base simply because you don't like it. I'm not saying you can't have an opinion, you just shouldn't use that as an excuse to be lazy about your code.

Radley, a mod has already told you to stop bringing it up. I did explain MANY times why I don't want opera users viewing the site and i'm not going to again so just go back and read all of my replies and let people actually comment on the site itself. If you have nothing else to say then don't bother posting in this thread.

Stephen was very vague in his post so I wasn't sure what he was talking about.

I was refering to anything that related to those who flamed the thread earlier. All the other stuff relating to the site's coding is fair game. In fact, I think I was a bit mistaken and read some of the earlier posts wrong. Alex's and Radley's posts are fine. My apologies.

Ahem - listen up buddies.

He's said he doesn't want Opera users looking at his site - fine. That's his choice, not yours.

Which means give it up already. He's given his reasons as to why he doesn't want Opera users to view his site, and right or wrong is not really for you to decide.

This is a site review thread, NOT the debate forum - so if you have nothing more important to post than telling him to allow Opera access, don't bother posting.

Okay, fine, I rest my case...

So, here's some real comments:

Design

[*] Overal too bland, gives a too homogene view on first sight [*] The font is too big in the headers, spacing out would be better [*] The gradients in the headers are too contrastful [*] Gray is one of the dullest colors. White radiates an open feel, while black makes it look cosy, Gray is most of the time boring. Try using different tones of gray if you really need gray. [*] Beveling edges don't really cut it here, use solid ones. [*] Download page: orange on gray, this looks totally unreadable [*] Tutorial page: again, orange on gray [*] Forum: totally unreadable due to low contrast

Hints: Use a light blue on everything or use blue elements. Blue is the complementary color of orange, this will generate a better overal feel. Work on the font sizes to create a less cramped feel.

Code

[*] No DOCTYPE, this is the most important tag in a html document and you forgot it. [*] Put all your css in the same style tag [*] It's better practice to keep metas before the style tags [*] Title tag needs to be directly behind the <head> tag [*] Don't use tables for layout purposes. Tables were meant for tabular data only. If you feel uncertain about which tag to use, try using divs, their structure is similar to that of tables. [*] Never ever use a <font> tag. They're totally banned and outdated and shouldn't be used. [*] Put the javascript of ADDFREESTATS.COM in your head, not in your body [*] You have four <html> tags in your page, as well as two body, head and title tags, this is untolerable [*] Put the javascript of the google ads in your head

Hint: For such an easy design, use css instead, will save you alot of time and help you get rid of the <font> tags.

Conclusion

It's not bad for an amateur site, but I recommend putting some study into it. The site doesn't really speak to me. It's also not really innovative and reminds me of about every other site made in that style. Shock people, dare to do something with the design. As for the code, I won't give out extra comment. It's probably your first or second site and thus your code requires alot of extra studying. There are alot of excellent tutorial sites out there.

Good effort, but I hope to see more...

Yeah thanks. that's all I was asking for! Although a lot of people have like some of the things you mentioned, I still appreciate the feedback.

Oh and the reason there are 4 html tags is because there are php includes on that page so it is only including tags from other pages... which reminds me, you had nothing to say about the user management, content management and posting features coded in php... any reason? or were you only pointing out what I need to work on?

and honestly, i'm glad it reminds you of all the sites in that style... kind of what I was going for.
