Because Microsoft should be spelled M-o-n-o-p-o-l-y.
I feel Mozilla should raise some more cash and get a commercial on television. Maybe that'd do some good. Something along the lines of "Tired of annoying pop-ups? Tired of all those security flaws in Internet Explorer? etc." Or they could have some guy dressed up in a web browser costume and have him walk down the street and as he does these tiny people dressed up as pop-ups jump out and harass him. Then show someone dressed up as Firefox and have him destroy the pop-ups in one fell swoop. It's perfect...

The whole popup issue isn't really valid anymore since IE has popup blocking as of SP2.
Spread Firefox is working towards a full page ad in the New York Times. I'm not sure how much a TV commercial costs compared to a full page newspaper ad, so we'll see how that goes.

Well if you were a smart web designer you would design for IE why? what was the statistic some one just posted 85% or whatever amount of people use IE. And yes I know you have to code for all browsers, but the standard to code for is IE make sure it works well on that one. Thats like designing a site for 1024x768, pretty much shooting yourself in the foot.
Now for website compatibility, last time i checked FF had some display problems with a lot of CSS. Could be fixed with one. And yes IE has a lot of bugs too, i know.
Not saying anythings better, just stating, microsoft could care less about FF, they know nothing is going to change any time soon.
And remember you may think FF is a lot safer cause theres always viruses and stuff going after IE, why? cause its the most widely used. Its like windows XP and windows 98, almost all new viruses, worms etc are meant to attack XP cause its more widely used, leaving 98 safe and sound (for the most part) I am a 98 user and have yet to get a virus. Is it more secure? or are people just diverting their attention to somethign that is more widely used.
When mozilla gets bigger, i can guarantee you it will start getting attacked just as much.
"Firefox may continue to show gains, but the software could reach a ceiling, according to WebSideStory's Johnston. Most of its users are technology-proficient early adopters rather than average Web surfers. "(Firefox) hasn't gotten to mainstream," he said."

Well, a smart designer will write clean code that will work in the majority of web browsers either way.
I think to say Microsoft cares less about FF is completely ignorant. A business of its nature does not simple disregard its stiff competition no matter how small or large.
The difference between the security situation of Mozilla and IE, is Mozilla will have a patch out soon after the problem. And since it's open to more developers you have a better chance of solving the problem - unlike IE.
And, of course, Firefox hasn't gone mainstream in the sense that we know it. Can you imagine when it will?
Anyway, this has been discussed a billion times. I understand where you're coming from in terms of who browses the internet and what they use, but that's not the point of the matter. The point is, basically, Firefox has caused a stir. I think this is quite obvious especially considering they are mentioned every other day on TechTV.
bleh.

If you're a smart web designer, you'll code to the standards put forth by the w3.
last time i checked FF had some display problems with a lot of CSS.
