Microsoft is only going to work on fixing the things that the majority of people are concerned about. Right now, the major concern about IE is security issues. Most people dont care about or even know about standards issues, so microsoft doesnt care about them either. Fixing them wont make them more money.

If microsoft really wants to win the browser war, they will have to successfully create a secure browser (not going to happen) and create a standards compliant browser ( not going to happen).

Microsoft have still got something like 93% of the market.... yeah firefox is catching up but it isnt really a big threat yet. As for microsoft not having much going for it, they still have windows. Computer enthusiasts may not like it / use it but the majority of people still do.

i think 93% is far too high i belive its 72-75% remember though the only thing keeping that high is because IE is distributed with the OS otherwise i think it would be a different story.

it all depends on who the audience is... I think the usage stats from sites like amazon.com and nytimes.com are more accurate than stats from web developer sites where firefox is being used at least 20% nowadays.
