Contests Forum is closed
Under the decision of the staff, the contests forum will be closed until further notice.
We are working on a contests & battles area for the new site, that will correct the lack of consistency in following our guidelines concerning contests, and hopefully offer a better ground for design and development contests in the future.
If you have any questions, you can PM me at anytime. All current contests will be able to continue until they are deemed final. New contests will not be allowed.
I am sorry for the inconvenience, however, I'd like you all to use this thread to ask any questions, as well as to post suggestions about how you'd like the contest center to run. We anticipate this being returned by Christmas 2004.

Dear Locke
When I read this, I was thinking of something along these lines:
- The contest holder should make the money over to one of the administrators ( or some one who we all can trust on taking care of the money.
- Then if some one wins, this "taking care of the money"- person can send the money to the winner
* this will secure our contests and leave scams out of it.
** Of course the contest owner can get his money back, if the outcome isn't what he/she expected.
Kind Regards,
Klaas Koopman, Administrator KKPortfolio.net

Klaas,
This option has been fully researched by the contest moderators over at yaxay.com already. It turned out this was not a viable option, due to several good reasons. Perhaps it would be a good idea for the moderators here to talk with the moderators on yaxay, after all, why reinvent the wheel right?
Though I am quite sure the people here at tutorialforums have their own good ideas already for the contest section. I fully understand the reason for its closing, and I hope to see it back in full speed sometime around christmas!
Good luck TF People! *g*

Remco,
What are the reasons to not execute the idea I´ve seen on other boards already, where it does work?
Kind Regards,

I don't actually think the point of reinventing the wheel is really what we're trying to accomplish. Contests in a forum simply do not work to the staff's satisfaction. They are clouded with unnecessary comments, among other things, and weeding through pages and pages of 'lol, cool' posts to find an entry, is just a little annoying.
We wanted to create a system that divides entries from comments, and has comments towards an 'entry', and not as a whole, and then a 'general' discussion for the contest. I feel that makes it easier to allow others to rate, and ultimately keep it interesting.
Another thing is the 'fraud' aspect. While we're not a huge designer base for contests that Yaxay gets, I do hope we one day do get some awesome contests like that, however that will solely depend on the users and the things we give them to do so.
We intend on using a more straight-forward 'contest entry' form, that will allow us to retrieve the information we need, and then approve the contest, thus making all of the preliminary decisions staff eyes only, before the general public sees them. We also intend to launch some of our own 'contests' to draw a userbase here to help the contest area as it is lacking.
We will probably develop an Escrow program, where as Klass calls it the money handler. It would basically allow us to hold the funds, upon verifying, make the contest winners 'entry' available in full to the contest holder, and would then transfer the money. That is a system which will be as complex and hard to accomplish, not so much in development, but legally and assuring it runs correctly. As it is a huge liability to us if we do that.

Aright, This was the only site that I knew that had constant Contests that paid money, Im lacking money so I need some new sites that pay. Does anyone know any sites that hold contests that involve money? other then Yaxay.com?
Thanks
