How to resize multiple images at once..

Does anyone know how to resize multiple images at once using Photoshop 7.0? I know theres the automated version where you make a slideshow, but I just want to make thumbnails.. don't need the slideshow. Thanks.

Well one way you could do it is you open up the image...Make a new action. Record. Size it. Stop. Open your next image and use that action. Thats the fastest way I could think of it.

freestyle web's way is one way but there's also another way....

note: if all of your images have the same dimensions then this is a good way....

- create a new document (whatever dimensions but preferably larger than your images)

- go to the layer menu > layer set. this will create a folder in your new document but this folder is like a container where you can put all of your images and/or layers....

- now open all of your images and drag all of them into the layer set folder in your new document

- once all of them are in the layer set, select the layer set folder (set 1)....

- and just hit free transform and transform away....all of the images and/or layers in the layer set will be transformed all at once and also stay proportionately with each other....

hope that helps...

This should be the fastest way :
record the action where you resize an image. If you enable the blue screenie in the actions palet it will ask you everytime you execute that action what dimensions you want the resize to be, if you don't it will resize to the dimensions you recorded that action with.

Once recorded, make sure all your images are in one map and go to file->automate.
The instructions should be obvious, just locate the map, fill in how you want the thumbnailnames to be saved and in what map, select the resize action you recorded and sit back as Photoshop does all your work on any number of pictures.

Actions all the way

yup, create an action, then use it to do the work for you Smile

thanks for the replies. i think the action function works the best. now is there an easy way to make a gallery full of thumbnails so that when you click each thumbnail, a larger image shows up? or would you have to do this manually?

I created a few "droplets" for the site i've been working on most recently.

Basically, you record an action like described before, but then you save it as an .exe file (in menu --> file --> automate). Then you can drag and drop files or entire folders onto the icon of that .exe and it will apply the action on all of them. I prefer them over batch actions because you can burn them to CD or send them ot another computer otherwise.

EDIT:
in response to the most recent post:
Yes you can create a gallery "automatically", you'll need to do some server-side scripting though. Personally, i only have some experience with PHP but i've done this. I'm a bit of a sloppy programmer though, so maybe you should ask in the server-side forum.
