Odd design... need professional opinions

Please download the attachment for a jpeg of the layout. This layout, I believe, will be aligned left and top, flush with the browser. The space above the links will be for a search.

I was feeling a bit crazy when I designed this sucker, and I am wondering if it is a bit too strange, and what all I could do. Also, just general opinions and critiquing are welcome.

I see what you were trying to do, but it wasn't executed well. If you have a tablet, you should try drawing the lines in with that. You will get a crisper line and you can still keep the wobbly "drawn" look, which I believe will help out a lot. Right now it looks like it was done with a shaky hand in paint, which probably isn't the impression you want to give.

Thanks for the tips, but unfortunately I don't have a tab, and I think that is about as best I can do with just a mouse, considering I want it to look terrible (you know, as part of the design). What do you guys think of the design itself? As far as how well it works, if it looks good overall, etc.?

It looks a little too wobbly, doesn't really execute the drawing feel it looks your aiming for. The top menu doesn't look too good, and the logo doesn't stand out that much (color + style of it are the same as the menu, etc). The boxes on the left look a bit too big and the drawing style won't work well for them. I think you need to straight up the lines a little, don't do it so wobbly, else it looks like you did it with your eyes closed.

In general it looks like you really rushed it. Look for some inspiration and build your design off that (not a direct copy, just borrow some ideas here and there)...

Oh, yes, of course I rushed it. That was a 10-minute design. But I think that also makes it a lot more unique... if I'm lucky people will notice how much it sticks out from other console gaming sites and come back. Also, my nav is very simple considering this will be a fairly large site... I have 15+ staff working there, and it will have daily news and updates and tons of pages. Basically, my goal was to make something unique, simple, but odd enough to make people remember it. Do you think I am accomplishing this? Why or why not?

No you did not accomplish this. Honestly, I think that people will think this site is either a joke, or that the site is very amateur and is hardly worthy as a resource for the latest Nintendo(?) information. I think you should re-think the whole design. It looks very poor right now. I like the color scheme though.

Kryponite, you're pretty much right. Lol. I'm not actually "embarassed"... more or less just feeling like an idiot for even considering using that. For a minute after I designed it, it seemed alright. Ha.
