A Cross-ish Sort of Pixelled Effect

Okay, I've seen this sort of effect in lots of graphic art and blends, and I saw a tut for how to do it somewhere (I can't remember where!!! Sad). It's a sort of pixelled look, but like it's made out of little plus signs. Here are examples (it's a hard effect to explain):
-Bigger X-es
-Smaller X-es
-Less noticeable effect

Does anyone know how to do this or know where a tutorial for it is? I'd really like to use it in my art. Thanks! And I hope there hasn't already been a thread on this...

EDIT: Wow! Pretty soon after I posted this, I learned how to do it. For anyone who doesn't know, it's called "ordered dither". Heehee.
