God you whipersnappers have it easy i remember when it took 2 hours to download a 14 meg file (28.8 modem). i just finnishes a 300MB in a little less than an hour. (786K DSL)

whipersnappers??

you cant be that old since you said 28.8 instead of 1200 baud. ahh the days of 1200 baud modems.

i used to be on optonline when i was in jersey. i dont think any cable companies can beat their speeds. but now im stuck here in el paso with crappy road runner that has a 40k upload speed. so horrible

Road Runner provides great service here in Florida. Its very realiable, and the fastest thing we can get around here (I got 2700 down and 400 up).

Well I've been running a test at different times during the day to see what the differences would be and there really is no difference at all with my actual connection

The down speed is always just under 3 around 2.8 give or take a point and the up is always just under 200

I do notice that during busier hours the tcp overhead is greatly increased which probably explains why the actual connection speed doesn't change very much.

So unless you are in the heart of Manhattan I don't think you need to worry about traffic jams with cable broadband and I am in the center of Seattle which is pretty heavily populated with internet cafés and other things so kudos to comcast for fixing their broadband...

I agree though that opt online is still probably the best.

Then again dreams of an OC connection still persist
