i think its more than six, i know a friend who had 8 invites at one time.

I have 6. First 5 to PM or email me with their first/last name and email gets an invite. The last one is for somene else.

Does anyone know how GMail distributes invites? Like if you use their service more, or they give it to whoever signs up for a week, or what?

They probably just gives it out randomly.. because a friend of mine only signed up for a day and they gave him 6 invites.
