Dummy Question

I'm new to illustrator and can't figure out why it wont open the supplied templates, it will open a .ait that I create, but not the templates that come with the program. Does anyone know why, and if there's anything I can do to fix it.

What's the error message that you get?

The file "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator CS\Templates\CD and DVD\CD ROM 1 Tray Card.ait" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened.

*random template I chose, but it won't open any of them*

Try using the Place (import) command.
Sorry I can't be of any further help, I'm not familiar with the CS version.

I've never tried opening any of the templates before, but now that I try it doesn't work for me either. I tried renaming the file to .ai but that also didn't work. Try contacting Adobe and see what they say. This isn't really much of a problem for me as I don't use them but I think your best bet would be to ask Adobe....

Have you checked to see if the files are actually installed.
Check to see the file size of them.
Chances are they are 0k.
If that is the case you will have to re-install them from the disk.
The ones you create have information to them so hence they open...

hope that helps...
