Editing a Path

How can I edit this path so I can make the top part a curve so it lines up with the outside of the white? I've tried a lot of different things, but I can't seem to get a curve in there.

I don't know if I fully understand your question, but it sounds like all you want to do is add a point midway between the two top vertices. Then use the convert tool, and drag the control point to get the arc. From there either drag the point up or use the arrow key to move it up until it conforms to the white arc.
