Read Me: The Good Reviews Guide (Everyone Read - Updated 5/9/05)

Before posting:

  • If you are posting a whole new site which you've created for review, it is highly advisable that the site be moderately close to a complete (though not necessarily final) state... this will help you get accurate and helpful feedback from your fellow members - which can be challenging for them to give if you don't give them much to work with. Remember to attempt to be creative on your own, and having done that, you can come here for feedback on what you have created.
  • The Site Reviews section is for getting feedback on complete or moderately complete sites. If you have an image to show off, or a splash, please post it in the Image Showoff forum.
  • Remember that constructive criticism is only good for you, it will only make you a better designer.
  • Please don't post another thread for only minor updates to your site - a new thread should only be made if it is a major update, or whole new version. If it's only minor then please simply post again in your other thread, with another link, and your thread will be bumped to the top again.
  • If any part of your site was done by someone else, you should have already received permission to use the works from the original author, and have the credits to that author clearly displayed on your site, as well as in the new thread you've created. Ripping sites or other works only gets you in trouble ...
  • Don't forget the link to your site in your thread!

When Replying

  • To give a good site review, one must first view each page, to get a feel for the layout, and test the useability.
  • Select what faults you would like to discuss. Please, do not bash, if you are going to give a negative comment, back it up with some constructive criticism.
  • Suggest some possible ways the thread starter could go about rectifying the problem at hand.

Obviously:

  • Dont flame and follow the general rules that govern TF.

Do not post one word replies, such as "sucks", or utterly unconstructive criticism or personal bashing, like "give up designing", "your site sucks", "worst I've ever seen", and "time to redesign". These posts are considered spam in this forum, and will be treated as such. If you are not going to be specific/constructive, do not post. If you do, expect a warning. Everyone must be willing to be helpful for a review thread to be considered a success. Feel free to go into detail, or say something "I see what you're trying to do with the typography, but it's not cutting it. I think this site [link to xyz.com] has the style you're trying to achieve - why dont you look it over?".

For those submitting reviews, remember people are taking their time to help. Replies like "I dont care" will result in the conclusion of that specific review.

Please, think of the "take a penny, leave a penny" principle. If you ask for a review, review someone elses. That helps this forum remain active, and helps you get more reviews.
