I'v coded Java for a while and I think its the worst language ever created. The problem is that there isn't really any other language out there that is as versatile. With Java you have cross-platform support and online/offline support. While other languages do offer this there aren't any as widely known.
As for Microsofts VM it is very different compared to Suns because of lawsuits and stuff. I am not sure how different but I'm pretty sure its different.
Coding for Java is the most annoying part. Its so object oriented that if you haven't done any object oriented programming before its almost next to impossible to learn. There are some great books out now though so its getting easier.
I'v forgotten most of the language by now, but from what I remember its pretty annoying but its not useless.
Finally, I can't believe there is a program called CrazyCoder. I should have copyrighted this screen name. Err.

LMAO.
Isn't it juuuuust great?
I know how to make web.xml pages and where to put .jar files so the web.xml will work and that's about it. If you ever figure out how to use mod_jk for Apache let me know! Pleeeeeease.
