Is JAVA useless?

Any java programmers out there besides me...Think that java is usless or am I the only one, the only powerful thing I've seen with java is runescape and its not even that good. I just dont think java is going to go anywhere or is just me. ::angry::

I would say it is only useless because microsoft made it part of its monopolizing strategy (w/IE)... other wise it is pretty powerful.

I have been doing java since i started my degree course, and I have already come to HATE it. Its awkward to do, there are no real decent IDEs, the GUI side of java is a nightmare. The only thing that is easy is simple console stuff...

The idea around java, jvm and bytecode is a good one, but I just dont think its ever going to become as big as Sun hope it will.... its good for small portable applications (like mobile games) and thats the it imo.

It's a beast.
It's really awkward to try in use in applications. I've been trying for almost 2 months now to debug and fix some web based java applications we have here. I've made some real good headway, but it's much harder to debug and pinpoint problems than other programming languages.

I could give you a hand if you want....chuck me a message.

It makes web pages load a lot slower, at least for me...

yeah, the idea behind java is good to make a cross-platform versitile language, but its not really useful in practical and popular uses of computing and other stuff. Its great for mobile phones though.
