VECTOR makes me want to rip our my hair... but then again
I've been reading tutorials about how to make images from photos to vector. and ARRGGHHH I am apparently missing the point somewhere . one tutorial says use the pen tool and just trace the strong details one says to posterize the image then trace then fill so far none of these tutorials have shown me how to keep the image intact for print.
It just doesn't "click"
any tips for a frustrated beginner to the vector world. btw i did check out idiots guide to illustrator from the library and am reading now. so far it doesn't describe this scenrio of changing a photo to a vector but hopefully i'll gain a better knowledge of illustrator and whatever i'm missing will make more sense
Thanks
Tanya

If you have Photoshop, first import your photo, run the 'cutout' filter, save, open in illustrator and trace.

hehe that's a neat little trick. I'm actually a photoshop user trying to 'broaden my horizons' so to speak. I hate not being able to do something.. thanks

I feel ya, and i've been going through a lot of the same troubles trying to learn how to do vector art. i'm still experiementing myself, but i think i've learned that to make good vector art you really just gotta take your time. personally - i like to use the pen tool, and i make each color of the image i'm tracing over on a different layer. mostly i just wanted you to know that i (like you) am finding it a lot harder than photoshop.
