bitmap to vector OR rough to smooth

ok I have this outline drawing (no colors just black on white) I've scanned it in, played around with it for about a week in photoshop (am no expert!!), but it still looks pixellated and this needs to look smooth to go to press. AGgggghh!!

.......its currently at 800x800 and just too jagged.

am fast running out of time, so question is this - are there QUICK AND EASY ways I can sort out the jagged lines and smooth out the curves???? (Be aware i know nothing about paths and pen tools and blurring) or should i export it to Illustrator and see what can be done there???

Any help is so much appreciated, especially if it helps me solve the problem.

The easiest, though probably crappiest solution would be to use the blur tool. Apply it to the edge of the lines, but save it as a different name than your original, just incase you find a better solution. I'm not to familiar with either program, but that is probably the easiest solution.

Hey Mic::
What was the original? Drawing/lineart, photo, or some doodle on a napkin? How was the image scanned? What DPI was it scanned at? Usually 300dpi or more for print/silkscreen. These can factors the outcome of the image. You said that the image is 800x800 which is actually a screen resolution. You will need to know the final print size. Is rescanning the image a possibility?
Can you post an example of the image that you are working with. Maybe someone can fix it or suggest the correct way to scan it.

I think there's some vectorizing filter out there for some program, I have no idea what it's called or who makes it, but I remember there being one, and I remeber people claiming it didn't work well.

The only way to really vectorize something is to spend a day with the pen tool and outline the thing.
