No... what you sell to someone is your intellectual property and you own the rights to it... but if you work as a designer for a design firm, anything you do for that design firm is their intellectual property.

Mas, anything in my portfolio from when I worked in-house for a very big company in the UK had to be:-

a) Live or has been live
b) At least 2 years old

If its part of your contract, you have to cope with it..
