heh I saw the link. So you're just asking how to make a selection (?). In that case, you can use quick mask mode and just make a layer mask to get rid of the servers background.

1. press q to go into quick mask mode
2. using black, paint the object you want to keep (white if you mess up)
3. press q to exit
4. ctrl + shift + i to invert selection
5. add layer mask.
