computer/dedicated server box images for company headers

does anyone know how to make an image (like a computer) go ontop of part of a header..?

its kinda hard to explain.. but if i try to use the polygon lasso tool itl look all jagged and unprofessional

well make sure you have anti-aliased checked as an option when using the lasso tool (this makes the edges of the selection smoother).... or use the pen tool.... yummy smooth with pen tool..

If you are talking about the jaggies you get when cutting a part of an image out, this is a very simple but not the only solution:

1. cut image out with polygon lasso tool

2. Ctrl select that layer (so you see the marching ants)

3. select>modify>contract that selection by 1px (or more depending on the size or your image)

4. then do a filter>blur>gaussian blur (play with the setting on that one .. don't go too far as your image will look way fuzzy)

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by copy selections with a pen. You can make a path out of a selection by making a work path.

As for as the thought process behind it overlapping...you would just design your entire image/header. then using divs and your flash just lay it out accordingly - take a look at the attached image- you would have 2 rows (if using a table) or 2 divs and on the top one you'd have it with a repeating background image (to save file space) and then you'd have your regular image in another column to the right of it. below that you have your .swf. make any sense?

atleast that's how i'd do it.

im not actually going to do this in flash, i was just talking about the look of the flash header, because i knew you could do that in PS
