try to get it around the 800x600 range if not larger
and make it tile both width and height wise so it can set its own paremeters (sp?) in each res.

To be safe wihtout scroll in all browsers? And on all settings?
That will become small.
602 * 345 px, when going for 640 * 480
742 * 365 px, when going for 800 * 600

Thanks, but I think most of the people who look at my site view it in 1024x768, and a FEW view it in 800x600. I know about the Mozilla problem and am going to be using CSS to do the new site.

You have to always measure it against your target audience.. in my case, most of the time, I can't even disregard the ones on 640*480 (and yes they are still out there, last week I had someone checking and getting mad sending an email as he couldn't load one of my sites in NS3!)
If you are doing a gaming site, I would do it for at least 1024, as at least 85+% will be on that resolution or higher...
myself I am working on 1280 * 1024

alot of my users are 1024 based, a few are 800 though. I'm just gonna put a thing saying best viewed in 1024.
