Beginning Vector Artist: Needs Help!

Hey guys. I'm currently a non-vector graphics artist with only a few weeks experience. I like vector art and was wondering what program vector artists like Speed use.

There have been quite a few discussions here regarding which program to use and in the end what we come up with is that it all depends on the person that wants to use it.

Like, if you already work with Photoshop, you won't have problems with Illustrator. But if not, maybe Freehand would be the best way to go, especially if you've already worked with another Macromedia product.

There's also CorelDraw, but I don't recommend it... it seems easier at the beginning but in the end you'll get disappointed.

Personally I prefer Illustrator, but the best thing for you to do is download a trial version and then make up your mind.

It depends on what type of vector art you want to do. IMHO, for just straight Illustrations, no need to worry about exporting to flash, etc. Illustrator is the best.

To my knowledge, freehand doesn't have anything like the gradient mesh tool, which is one of the main things that makes Illustrator such a powerful drawing program.

If you want hands down dirrty vectors, use Illustrator. Otherwise Freehand is comparable.

Illustrator is the obvious way to go. Although, i have made a vector pic with photoshop.

Freehand is a much more powerful tool and is actually alot nicer for print projects. Illustrator is more ituitive and faster to work with. I recommend illustrator but I use both.

I started with corel draw 2 back in the day and worked in that up to version 4 then went to illustrator... uninstalled illustrator for about a year to force my self to learn it and for maybe the last 2-3 years have used both all the time. They each have their strengths.

And even tho the marketshare isnt there... corel draw is just as capable and very powerfl.

I use Photoshop 7.0 for my vectors... it's quite good

2 be or 2 be, that's not a question that's a fact.

Illustrator 10 is far more powerfully. Freehand brags about how it compatible with Flash for example when in reality Illustrator is far more capable.
